Cali Brand Pilgrim Soul Secures $2M During Seeding Round

According to a press release on Yahoo Finance, Pilgrim Soul, a national cannabis lifestyle brand that emphasizes creative performance enhancement, recently announced that it secured a $2M strategic seed round from some top retail, tech, and cannabis investors. The round’s investments include Bee House, Meaningful Partners, Merida Capital Holdings, serial entrepreneur and Skip-Hop found Michal Diament, and other tech entrepreneurs.

Veteran NBA player and Viola Brands founder Al Harrington is also acting as a brand advisor and equity holder, as is Merlin Kauffman, the founder of Soothe, and Ann Watson, former Sperry & Club Monaco CMO.

Since Pilgrim Soul’s inception in 2020, it has brought in$5.8M in revenue with its creative curriculum. The Pilgrim Soul Creative Thinking Journals have allowed it to become one of the top 500 best-selling books on Amazon. Not to mention, the brand has an expanding database of over 250,000 consumers who like to use cannabis for creativity and has been given a Clio Award due to its innovative cannabis packaging.

Last year, the company released its line of Live Resin Vape Pens. These feature some of its exclusive blends of creative cannabis strains. The products are now available at many top cannabis retail operations throughout California, including Sweet Flower and MedMen.

Pilgrim Soul has also partnered with AbstraxLabs to analyze 100+ strains that offer creative characteristics, as well as secondary and tertiary states of mind. Once they identified each of the strains’ common cannabinoid and terpene profiles, they got to work developing blends of select strains with a focus on enhancing several types of creative thinking, including Creative Imagination, Creative Focus, Creative Reflection, and Creative Awareness.

“Pilgrim Soul has a unique focus and business approach that will allow them to create, define and lead a new category in the cannabis industry,” explained Mitchell Baruchowitz, the CEO of Merida Capital Holdings. “Their commitment to helping people live better lives through creativity is aligned with our commitment to back meaningful brands and disruptive products.”

The Founder and CEO of Pilgrim Soul, Shawn Gold, has experience developing culturally influential brands by way of performance marketing, social media, content, and subscription development. Prior to Pilgrim Soul, he held CMO roles at MySpace, Lowell Herb Co., Engadget, TechStyle, and created and implemented digital communications strategies for brands at General Mills, P&G, Mattel, and Nestle.

“Through my previous experiences at Stanley Bros, MedMen, and Lowell Herb Co., it became clear that the next wave of cannabis brands will be vertically focused, mission-driven, and built around a strong belief system where the cannabis itself is just a portion of the total brand package,” explained Gold. “For Pilgrim Soul, it’s about helping people unlock their innate creativity through exclusive cannabis blends paired with a creative curriculum, community-driven programs, and expert content via”

“In leading companies like Sprouts Farmers Market, I have seen first hand what it means to scale a business by helping people live a better life,” explained¬†Amin Maredia, the Co-Founder of Meaningful Partners. “I invested in Pilgrim Soul for their specific commitment to purpose and profit, providing a toolset for people to enhance their life by tapping into their natural creative abilities.”

The brand continues to encourage artist endowment initiatives by enlisting artists from under-resourced communities to create original artwork on every vape pen and pen packaging. Pilgrim Soul has even collaborated with comedian Martin Lawrence to release a limited edition version of their creative thinking journal that features abstract cover art made by Clarence James, a D.C. artist inspired by street art, underground youth culture, hip hop music, and Black culture.
