Cali Considering Requiring Labels to Display Cannabis Mental Health Risks
According to NPR, many scientific studies connect cannabis consumption to a heightened risk of developing psychiatric disorders. This includes but isn’t limited to schizophrenia.

In fact, those using high-potency cannabis daily experience four times more risk of developing a psychiatric disorder than those who do not use cannabis. Another study shows that stopping adolescent cannabis consumption has the potential to decrease global schizophrenia rates by 10 percent.
The idea doctors and lawmakers in Cali are pushing is to warn consumers of this and other health concerns. The packaging labels and advertising would explain these risks.
There’s also a push to have sellers distribute health brochures to first-time customers to show them the risks of cannabis to youths, drivers, and pregnant women, particularly if the cannabis contains high concentrations of THC.
