Officers Who Killed Fire Evacuee at One of Cali’s Largest Grows Cleared
According to The Sacramento Bee, the four police officers who shot and killed a man at a wildfire evacuation checkpoint last summer just outside of a large cannabis cultivation operation in Northern Cali will not face charges.
The officers shot Soobleej Kaub Hawj at a checkpoint just outside of a small community called Big Springs in Siskiyou County, not a long way away from the Cali-Oregon border. They’d been evacuating the area after the Lava Fire started moving towards thousands of illegal cannabis grows scattered throughout the area.
Hawj, who was high on methamphetamine and had illegal firearms along with an out-of-state warrant for his arrest, pointed his loaded handgun at officers and drove his truck at them. This encouraged the hail of gunfire that ultimately ended his life.
